Art Teacher Mr. Franco’s student, Tierna Mahoney, Grade 10, won a Gold Key Award in Photography.
Art Teacher Lauren DeLong’s students, Himani Narayan, Grade 11, won a Silver Key Award in Photography and Eyesly Zuniga, Grade 12, won a Silver Key award in the Drawing & Illustration category.
The 31st annual Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards is the largest juried student art exhibition in the state.
As an affiliate of the National Scholastic Art Awards and The Alliance For Young Artists and Writers, the Connecticut region is proud to continue its annual tradition established in 1927, of honoring the creative efforts of students grades 7-12, in public, private and parochial schools.
Scholastic Art Awards is now the largest and most senior program of its type in the country.
Following the close of the Connecticut Regional exhibit, select Gold Key award winners from each national region will have their art works reviewed by an esteemed panel of judges.This National Jury will select "Gold Medal" national winners’ artwork to be exhibited virtually in New York City during the summer.
Our Connecticut Regional Celebration Award Ceremony will be held virtually this year.

On Thursday 3-5-20, seven NHS Scholastic Art Award winners received a State of Connecticut Senate Certificate for winning eight 2020 Connecticut Scholastic Art Awards!

City Wide Art Show May 13 through noon, May 16th 2019. The Opening Reception will be
Tuesday May 14th at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. During the City Wide Art Show, judges choose artwork for display in the BOE permanent collection hung in the 3rd floor, BOE hallways, offices and meeting rooms. The Norwalk Housing Authority will also choose student artwork for reproduction in their 2020 calendar.
Please mark your calendars for the NHS Art Show!
The show will be held May 21st, 22nd and 23rd during school hours in the library.
The Opening Reception is Wednesday May 22nd from 6 to 8 p.m.
Please come to the art show and celebrate our amazing student artists!
The art department will hold a bake sale fund -raiser at the art show. We are also selling reusable bags with an NHS logo designed by art student Takiyah Toney. Norwalk is “going green “ in July. Norwalk stores will no longer give away plastic shopping bags. We will sell NHS reusable bags until they run out! Bags are on sale for $5 each. If you purchase 4 bags you get one free! Be the first to show off your “NHS Green Pride” by using an NHS Art Department reusable bag the next time you shop.

EXCITING NEWS FROM THE NHS ART DEPARTMENT
Congratulations to Ms. Delong’s art student Jacob Timchak, Grade 12.
Jacob's artwork won a "Silver Key Award" in the National Scholastic Art Awards Competition!
Scholastic Art Awards is now the largest juried student art exhibition in America.
Established in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have grown to be the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition initiative for creative teens, and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers.
Following the close of the Connecticut Regional exhibit, Gold Key Award winners from each national region had their artwork reviewed by a blue- ribbon panel of judges at the National level.
The National Jury selected Jacob’s work for a “Silver Award” National medal. Jacob competed among students from across America, submitting nearly 340,000 original works, in 29 different categories of art and writing.
This award is a symbol of Jacob’s effort and achievement as well as his teacher Ms. Delong’s dedication to her students. This is the second National Award winner Ms. Delong has guided in the past few years.

For participating in the “Tracy Locke All” Internship. Creative Minority students participate in a 12- week intensive paid internship at a worldwide Marketing company. Students receive a work station, laptop, weekly homework assignments and weekly mentors in their assigned work field. Students learn all aspects of the Marketing field. Students pitch a Marketing campaign at the end of their 12 -week stay. Students are encouraged to stay in school and return to Tracy Locke for employment after college!

NHS Design Students attended a free field trip to the Sacred Heart University Department of Design, 27th Art & Design Expo. NHS students travelled by bus to Sacred Heart University to view the SHU student exhibit and listen to renowned Designer Philip VanDusen discuss his work and opportunities for lucrative careers in the Marketing Arts field!

Caylin's color pencil drawing won a Second -place award at the 5th annual "Teen Visions" 2019 Connecticut High School Art Exhibit held at Sacred Heart University's Gallery of Art & Design.
Second Place winners receive a $50 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama in Norwalk.
Congratulations to NHS Art Student Grace Long, Grade 12, for wining a 3rd place award at the Stamford Art Association 45th Regional High School Art Show & Juried art Competition. Grace won $50.
The Stamford Art Association sponsors this regional competition annually.Over 100 high art school students from 13 Fairfield County High Schools compete for prizes and cash awards. Grace's Drawing titled; "Farmhouse" took 3rd place in the Drawing category. Grace is a student in Ms. Lauren Delong's class.

The Connecticut Regional Celebration Award Ceremony will be held Sunday January 27th from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the University of Hartford, Lincoln Theater. The 2019 Scholastic Art Show opened January 13th at the Hartford Art School, Silpe Gallery, at the University of Hartford. The show closes Friday February 1st. We are proud of all our students who submitted entries into the 2019 Scholastic Art Awards juried competition!
The following students will submit artwork to the 5th “Teen Visions” 2019 Connecticut High School Art Exhibit held at Sacred Heart University’s Gallery of Art and Design:
Norwalk High School was invited to submit up to 10 art works to the competition. NHS art students in grades 9-12 will compete with other Fairfield County High School art students for Awards and gift certificates donated by Jerry’s Artarama. Awards range from 1 $200 “Best of Show” to 8 $100 “ 1st Place” and 8 $50 “2nd Place” awards. Every student receives a gift bag from Jerry’s Artarama and the pleasure of competing!
The “Teen Visions” High School Art Show is open from Sunday January 27th through February 10th in the Art and Design Gallery at Sacred Heart University.
The Opening Reception will take place Sunday, February 3rd from 2 to 4 p.m. The awards ceremony will start at 3 p.m. We wish our students loads of fun and good luck!
The 28th annual Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards is the largest juried student art exhibition in the state. It is a high level exhibition. As an affiliate of the National Scholastic Art Awards and The Alliance For Young Artists and Writers, the Connecticut region is proud to continue an annual tradition established in 1927. This national program was originated to honor the creative efforts of grade 7 to 12 students in public, private and parochial schools. It is now the largest and most senior program of its type in the country. Following the close of the Connecticut Regional exhibit, the select Gold Key award winners from each national region will have their art works reviewed by a blue ribbon panel of judges at the National level in March. The National Jury will select "Gold Medal" National winners and call in their artwork to be exhibited in New York City during June. The National student awards ceremony will be held at Carnegie Hall in mid- June. Selected students will receive an invitation to this National event.
