The NHS Fine Art Department provides an environment where students are encouraged to work independently and collaboratively, developing an open-minded attitude towards different forms of expression. Students choose courses from an exciting variety of media in studio art and art history classes presented at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. As young artists, students learn specific techniques for the development of visual literacy, higher order thinking skills, problem solving, planning strategies, the correct application of the principles and elements of Art and Design and accurate assessment. NHS art students have achieved local and national recognition. In addition, many graduates pursue successful careers in the Arts and Design as well as art related fields. The NHS Art Department fosters our students’ development of a life-long appreciation of the Fine Arts.
